sUAS Advanced Fixed-Wing Operations

This course further prepares graduate students to safely and effectively perform small uncrewed aircraft system (sUAS) advanced fixed-wing (FW) operations. Through instructor-supported demonstration, practice, and refinement, students will develop proficiency in graduate-level knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA)s relating to FW sUAS application. Students will review and practice FW sUAS control and system management, apply checklist and emergency procedures, conduct flight planning, apply crew resource management (CRM), and assess platform-specific traits and common applications. The combination of interactive scenario-based modeling & simulation tools and actual (live) sUAS operation will help students to develop uncrewed airmanship skills in settings that support the incremental exposure to increasingly complex use cases. Thereby, instructor-provided guidance and feedback during practice will prepare students for the application-oriented assessment of proficiency. With the successful completion of this course a student can expect to have gained further comprehension of key factors supporting productive, purposeful, responsible, legal, and safe operation of FW sUAS and will be able to demonstrate appropriate application of uncrewed airmanship. Pre-Requisites: FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate and acquisition of items detailed in the ERAU-Worldwide sUAS Toolkit; Eligibility: Students must be United States citizens or permanent residents, must be physically located within the United States, and hold an FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate while participating in the UNSY 625 course.
