Catalog description

Three (3) credits, 45 hours Co-requisite: CJU1100 The course allows the student to become familiar with the elements and the basic political and legal structure of the government of Puerto Rico. The historical process for the development of the political power foundation from the Autonomous Charter under Spain to the organic laws approved by the United States Congress are studied. It also addresses the scope and development of the legal system until the creation of the Constitution of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico. The political-electoral process and the governmental organization of Puerto Rico are analyzed, under its constitutional structure of balance of powers based on the three government branches. Also, the scope of the federal PROME SA Law and its purpose are incorporated into the governmental scheme.
