Catalog description

This course explores the origins and continuing evolution of the juvenile justice system. It provides an overview of the historical development and philosophy o f juvenile justice as the foundation of juvenile law, specifically pertaining to Law 88 of 9 July 1986 as amended on 2012 known as the Juvenile Act of Puerto Rico. Students study the nature, manifestation and range of antisocial behavior of minors, as well as prevention and treatment programs. The focus of the class also includes an examination of the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico’s and US Supreme Court case law.
