Catalog description

This course provides a three-week supervised clinical practice experience (SCPE) in a selected field of medicine as the culmination of the clinical curriculum, aimed at refining and reinforcing the principles of medicine under the direct supervision of a clinical preceptor. If necessary, this SCPE may also be used to ensure completion of the clinical curriculum course learning outcomes. Students will build upon the knowledge and skills acquired in classroom and laboratory settings and apply them in a clinical environment. They will practice conducting comprehensive histories and physical exams, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, and developing treatment plans for a diverse range of patients and conditions. Upon successful completion, students will demonstrate an understanding of the physician assistant’s role in medicine and entry-level to the PA profession proficiency in diseases, conditions, and wellness states encountered in clinical practice.
