Catalog description

This course will consist of a 4-week supervised clinical practice experience (SCPE) in an elective chosen by the student to practice the principles of a selected field of medicine in a clinical working environment under the direct supervision of a clinical preceptor. Students will refine the knowledge and skills acquired in the classroom and lab setting and utilize them in a clinical setting. Students will practice performing the history and physical exam, ordering, and interpreting diagnostic tests, and developing treatment plans for patients during acute encounters for conditions encountered in clinical practice. Upon successful course completion, students will demonstrate knowledge of how a PA functions in the elective setting and entry-level knowledge of diseases and well-states encountered in the specified field of medicine.
