Catalog description

Pre-requisites: admission to graduate program. This course is an investigation of partial differential equations and boundary value problems. Topics may include a parallel between solving a linear system of equations and a boundary value problem, approximate solution of parabolic PDE by projection onto the appropriate finite dimensional subspace, and solution of hyperbolic PDE with the method of characteristics. Throughout is discussed the finite element method.
