Pre-requisites: junior, senior or graduate standing; MATH 163 , MATH 231 , and MATH 443 . This course develops numerical linear algebra and error estimates essential for scientific computing: machine arithmetic, algorithms for solving systems of linear equations, algorithms for computing eigenvalues and singular values, and the theory of error estimates through condition numbers and backward analysis.
