Catalog description

Pre-requisites: ENGL 201 or permission of instructor. An examination of the wars of independence that convulsed Vietnam between 1945 and 1975, including their origins in French colonialism, support for "nation building" in the client state of South Vietnam after the defeat of the French, the Cold War decisions for military intervention by the United States, French, U.S., and Vietnamese strategies for fighting the wars, and the effects produced by the wars on both Vietnamese and American society.
