Pre-requisites: ENGL 201 or permission of instructor. The American Revolution produced the first-ever written constitution and an emphatic endorsement of individual human rights. This course explores the workings of the revolutionary spirit during the first half century of American independence, up to 1824. The assignments are designed as a progressive series of exercises in research and writing so that students finish the quarter knowing more about American history and about "doing history."
