Pre-requisites: ENGL 201 or permission of instructor. Satisfies: a university graduation requirement–global studies. This interdisciplinary course introduces central problems in German history and culture during the 20th century. Topics addressed include: the impact of World War I on German National Identity; Avant-garde culture in the Weimar Republic; the rise of Fascism and daily life in Nazi Germany; the Holocaust; and cultural and political divides between East and West Germany.
