Catalog description

Pre-requisites: ENGL 201 or permission of instructor. Satisfies: a university graduation requirement–global studies. Surveys the principal economic, social, religious, environmental, and political transformations in Latin America from the Wars of Independence (1810s) to the present in order to understand the roots of contemporary structures. Students evaluate histories of race, culture, and Latin America within a global context, as well as participate in discussions, in-class activities, readings, films, and other media, and complete short-writing assignments.
