Pre-requisites: GEOS 311 and GEOS 313 , or permission of the instructor. Corequisite: GEOS 462L . Abundance of elements in the solar system. Origin, chemical evolution, and composition of the earth; distribution and migration of chemical elements; differentiation history of the earth into crust, mantle and core. Origin and evolution of the hydrosphere and atmosphere. Chemical processes involved in weathering of rocks, chemical sedimentation, and diagenesis. Companion course to GEOS 462L .
