Pre-requisites: sophomore standing or permission of instructor. Satisfies: a university graduation requirement–diversity. Explores the complexity of the city in a global context, and the ensemble of economic, political, social, and environmental forces that are constituted in and reverberate through and across particular urban landscapes. Topical issues addressed include the evolution of urban spatial forms, policy and governance, and the city as an increasingly globalizing entity. Emphasis is placed on contemporary urban problems (widening inequality, deepening poverty, and social marginalization.
