Catalog description

Pre-requisites: GEOS 311 . Corequisite: GEOS 313L . A comprehensive study of the classification, description, and origin of igneous and metamorphic rocks. Covers the use of minerals in helping to interpret the geologic and tectonic significance of the rocks in which they are found. Builds on skills learned in GEOS 311 and stresses hand sample and thin section descriptive techniques. Weekly laboratories as well as one weekend field trip are required. Companion course to GEOS 313L .
