Catalog description

Pre-requisites: admission to graduate program or permission of the instructor. Corequisite: BIOL 581L . Explores aquatic habitats including streams, wetlands, and ponds, focusing on the invertebrates that live in them. Includes evolutionary history, ecology, life history, and unique adaptations of freshwater invertebrates, as well as tools for studying them. A major component of the course is learning to identify invertebrates using professional keys that are the standard in the field. Each student develops a collection of keyed aquatic invertebrates. Companion course to BIOL 581L .
