Pre-requisites: ≥C in BIOL 172 , BIOL 173 , BIOL 270 are required; BIOL 405 or BIOL 440 is recommended. Corequisite: BIOL 481L . Explores aquatic habitats including streams, wetlands, and ponds, focusing on the invertebrates that live in them. Includes evolutionary history, ecology, life history, and unique adaptations of freshwater invertebrates, as well as tools for studying them. A major component of the course is learning to identify invertebrates using professional keys that are the standard in the field. Each student develops a collection of keyed aquatic invertebrates. Companion course to BIOL 481L .
