I, II. Prerequisite: CHE 361 (C) and either MAT 234 (C) or MAT 211 (C). Prerequisite or Corequisite: CHE 471L (C). Introduction to thermodynamic laws and functions, with application to phase/chemical equilibria and electrochemistry. Quantum theory including an introduction to spectroscopy. Chemical kinetics including rate laws, reaction mechanisms, Arrhenius collision, and activated complex theories and catalysis. Credit will not be awarded for both CHE 471 and CHE 570.
