Special Education History and Law

Catalog description

The purpose of this course is to develop a foundation of understanding of the past and present perspective of individuals with disabilities and how this history had led to special education legislation and law. The course will develop knowledge about the nature and needs of learners with exceptionalities and their families, recognition of the existing and emerging models of services and the educational law supporting the individual’s rights to an appropriate education. All students are required to complete 20 hours of field experience which will require proof of appropriate clearances.
