Foundations of Nursing Practice II

Catalog description

This clinical course is directed to the nursing care of older adults. Unique health and nursing needs of the old adult clients and their significant others will be explored as well as the political, social, economic, ethical and moral issues that have implications for an aging society. Students will continue to practice fundamental nursing skills, including assessment and diagnostic techniques, planning of care and interventions, and evaluation of nursing activities. Specific attention will be on the pharmacologic needs, interpretations of laboratory results and other diagnostic tests as it pertains to the patient's medical diagnoses. A variety of hospital and community sites will provide opportunities for students to develop a solid foundation for critical thinking skills while honing in on their interpersonal and therapeutic skills. All course pre-requisites must be completed with a grade of 'C' or better.
