Catalog description

Introduction to Environmental Science is a survey course integrating a wide variety of scientific disciplines that provides students with a foundation in the basic principles and unifying concepts of Environmental Science, and provides an awareness of the importance of the earth's systems in their daily life. Topic selection will derive from the major themes of modern environmental science: Basic life and physical science as it relates to the environment, ecological principles, earth materials & land forms, weather and climate, sustaining biodiversity, natural resource usage, maintaining environmental quality, the interrelationships of humans with the natural world, and environmental changes and the scientific method for studying environmental issues; and the application of critical thought to contemporary environmental issues via structured online discussion forums from which 40% of the course grade will be derived. Prerequisite: Minimum grade of "C" in MTH 110 or MTH 108 and appropriate placement test score to reflect college level reading or placement into MTH 140 and appropriate placement test score to reflect college level reading.
