Catalog description

A study of EMS foundation concepts including EMS systems, safety and wellness, public health, legal and ethical issues, communications, documentation, and medical terminology. This course will also cover a review of anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, life-span development, patient assessment, critical thinking and decision making concepts, pharmacology, medication administration, math concepts, and airway. BLS skills will be reviewed to met The Committee on Accreditation of Education Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP). Advanced life support skills will be introduced. Class includes didactic, psychomotor and affective learning domains. This course uses the 2021 National EMS Education Standards and the National Scope of Practice Model. Prerequisite: Current Missouri EMT License, completion for BIO 151, minimum grade C within the past 5 years, acceptance into the Paramedic Program by EMS Program Director. Pre/corequisite: EMS*161
