Catalog description

MA116LAB is an entry-level medical assisting course designed to develop core clinical, administrative, and professional skills within the scope of the medical assistant’s role. Emphasis is placed on applying standards such as the Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), proper use of Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and emergency preparedness procedures Learners assist with general and specialty examinations by preparing, positioning, draping, and transferring patients while using culturally sensitive communication that ensures comfort, confidentiality, and respect for diverse backgrounds. Learners develop and deliver patient education using credible resources and demonstrate the proper use of therapeutic and assistive devices. Additionally, learners apply basic first aid and emergency response procedures, manage healthcare practice operations such as inventory and office functions, and practice professional behaviors including ethical decision-making, accountability, and self-reflection. Learners gain hands-on experience performing vital clinical procedures, including vital signs, injections (IM, SC, ID), venipuncture, capillary puncture, EKGs, and specimen collection, in accordance with infection control and safety protocols.
