Women in Global Conflict

Catalog description

The study of conflict and conflict resolution has historically tended to underplay female agency and the contribution of women in war and peacetime, respectively. A closer look at contemporary global conflicts suggests that the role of women as victims, perpetrators, and peacemakers is much more significant and challenges this androcentrism. By using multiple case studies this course introduces students to the predominant gendered narratives and paradigms of peace and conflict studies, then goes on to highlight the different roles that women have played in both perpetuating, challenging, and redefining them.
