Catalog description

This course explores the fundamental themes of Catholic sacramental theology. It examines sacramental theology from the perspective of biblical theology, Christian soteriology, and the Catholic Church?s liturgical practices and doctrines of the ?seven sacraments.? The course will also explore sacramental theology from the perspective of contemporary philosophical phenomenology. The course will explore issues in sacramental theology that touch on questions about the mysteriousness of God, the meaning of Christian symbols and rituals, the biblical narrative of salvation history, the embodied nature of human identity, and the symbiosis of persons and community, Spirit and Law, and mystical knowing and mystical non-knowing.
