Duquesne University · UGRD · Fall 2026
1 section
Catalog description
John Henry Newman spent the first half his life as an Anglican and the second half as a Roman Catholic. He never feared new paths of thought or action. This quest to grow and mature in his faith led him to leave Oxford University and the Church of England and become a Catholic. His life and studies not only changed him, but contributed important ideas that have influenced the Catholic Church. This course examines Newman's life and major works, and considers why the Catholic Church declared him a saint.
