Exploring Catholicism-Traditions and Transformation

Catalog description

The course will offer a systematic overview of the vision, practices, and beliefs of the Catholic faith and its tradition. A distinguishing characteristic of the course is to root theological reflection in the setting of liturgy: in particular, the rich symbolic matrix of the celebration of the Paschal Triduum as the capstone of the liturgical year. The course will explore the themes of the Trinitarian pattern of Christian salvation, Church as the sacrament of salvation in history, the sacraments and ongoing human transformation in the Spirit of Jesus Christ, and the hope of final transformation. The course will also be sensitive to icons of the Catholic sacramental imagination embodied in different artistic forms (music, painting, and film) and, especially, in lives of personal witness.
