Faith-Based Activism and Political Resistance in the United States

Catalog description

We are living in a time of increasing political activism marked by growing concerns about the health of our democracy, along with regular participation in protests, marches, boycotts, strikes and other forms of political action. How does religious faith motivate people to advocate for particular social policies and visions of freedom and justice for all? When and how is faith-based political activism effective? Can it really make a difference in our lives, local communities, and the nation? This course explores these questions using both traditional (readings, lectures, classroom discussion, etc.) and project-based learning methods of instruction. In other words, students will learn about faith-based activism, and also how to make their voices heard on the issues they care about.
