Catalog description

Societies and organizations within democracy face the question of balancing consensus building with the claims of differences--especially competing opinions, identities, and interests. This class will explore select literature in contemporary political and social theory that examines this classic paradox in democratic governance and culture. The syllabus topics consider democratic and organizational frameworks for responses to racial, cultural, religious, gender, and class differences.
