Applied Community Practicum
Duquesne University · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
The community practicum entails an individual project onsite with a community partner under the guidance of a faculty supervisor. The project may involve either community-initiated project or research of benefit to a community. Prior to registration the student must seek participation of a faculty supervisor willing to coordinate this practicum, and permission of the Graduate Director. The community partner, faculty supervisor and student will develop a project that benefits the community partner and fits with the expertise of the student. The practicum requires 50 hours of onsite work with the community partner per semester over a six or more-week period per credit. Student grades are determined by a tangible product or report evaluated by the faculty supervisor and community partner. Permission of the Graduate Director is required for registration and is contingent on an accepted project proposal. This course can extend beyond one semester but cannot be repeated beyond 3 credits.
