Catalog description

This course will explore the American drug problem and governmental policies aimed at reducing the drug problem. Using a sociological lens, we will discuss why drugs are a societal issue and not just a personal trouble. Therefore, the course will take a macro-sociological perspective; in other words, how does society influence the drug problem. We will explore the social processes that shape our understanding of drug usage and our policies for addressing the problem. We will assess the effectiveness of various governmental policies meant to address the drug problem.
