Craniofacial Disorders & Pediatric Feeding Disorders

Catalog description

This course provides an introduction to cleft palate, craniofacial anomalies and genetic conditions and their associated communication disorders. Additionally, this course covers pediatric oral motor feeding and swallowing. Students will learn about the development of orofacial cleft and craniofacial conditions, inheritance patterns and developmental ramifications. Identification and diagnosis of cleft and craniofacial anomalies will be presented. Emphasis will be placed on multidisciplinary care for cleft and craniofacial conditions as well as pediatric feeding and swallowing disorders including the role of each specialty in the ?total? care of the patient through all stages of development. Techniques and instrumentation for the diagnosis and treatment of general pediatric feeding and swallowing disorders and speech disorders associated with craniofacial anomalies will be demonstrated and practiced.
