Catalog description

This course explores how hearing loss affects communication throughout a person?s life, as well as its influence on learning and psychological well?being. It offers a thorough overview of aural rehabilitation (AR) strategies designed for speech?language pathologists. Topics include identifying and managing hearing loss and other audiological disorders of all degrees, along with understanding amplification options and hearing?assistive technologies. The course also addresses how to assess conversational fluency and communication difficulties, teach communication strategies, and provide counseling, psychosocial support, and assertiveness training. Additional areas covered include evaluating hearing and speech recognition, teaching speechreading and auditory training for both children and adults, supporting speech, language, and literacy development, and incorporating computerized instruction and telepractice into AR services.
