Advanced Research in Voice Science

Catalog description

The primary objective of this course is to enable students to integrate theoretical concepts in voice sciences by combining knowledge of human anatomy, physiology of voice production, acoustics, psychoacoustics, and voice perception. Moreover, students will learn research methodologies, instrumentation, measurement issues, and relevant statistical procedures for qualitative and quantitative research projects in the field of vocology. Throughout the course, students will establish a foundational understanding of normal and pathological voice production and perception, as well as explore advanced techniques for assessing and quantifying voice quality. Additionally, students will develop skills in identifying, reviewing, and critically evaluating studies reported in the literature. They will also engage in formulating research proposals, preparing academic reports, and addressing measurement concerns. Both quantitative and qualitative approaches will be employed to study human voices, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of this field.
