Groups and Identities in American Politics

Catalog description

Citizens and political elites alike rely on lenses and cognitive shortcuts provided by groups and identities to make sense of and to shape politics. In this course, students will consider where identities come from, how they become politicized, and why they matter. More specifically, we will explore connections between social identities and participation, vote choice, institutions, representation, and political conflict in the US context.
