Clinical Neurologic Science III/Lab

Catalog description

This is the third course in the didactic sequence of instruction in the neuromuscular curriculum and integrates previous coursework and skills into course programming. The major emphasis of this course is to apply the elements of patient/client management as described in the APTA Guide to Physical Therapy Practice to adult persons demonstrating aspects of disablement due to specific neurological conditions: brain tumors, multiple sclerosis, basal ganglia disorders, acquired brain injury, and vestibular system dysfunction. In addition, Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation techniques are introduced and integrated with previously learned interventions (from Clinical Neuroscience II) for persons with neurologic dysfunction. Emphasis will be placed on integration of examinations skills into evaluation, determination of functional prognosis, clinical problem solving as well as the planning and execution of therapeutic interventions.A problem solving approach will be used as the students make clinical decisions based on the integration of previous course work in basic and applied sciences.
