Examination Methods III/Lab

Catalog description

This course is the final of a three-course sequence in Examination Methods. The course builds from the first two courses in learning and practicing basic examination and documentation techniques specific to the lower quarter. The course is taken concurrently with professional phase coursework in Applied Anatomy and Kinesiology of the Movement System II and Orthopedic Science of the Lower Quarter. Topics covered are specific to the evaluation of the lumbosacral spine and the lower extremity. Students will master critical evaluation skills that include of regional surface palpation, range of motion, manual muscle testing, functional testing, and balance and coordination for the lower extremity. Students will be exposed to these concepts within the framework of patient problems and will be expected to integrate and apply this knowledge during the classroom laboratory experiences. Examinations and competencies will reflect this philosophy.
