Catalog description

The main topics covered are atomic bonding, crystalline structure, diffusion, mechanical behavior, thermal behavior, failure analysis and prevention, phase diagrams and kinetics. The course is an accurate description of the balance between scientific principles and practical engineering that is required in selecting the proper materials for modern technology. Three hours. Prerequisite: PHYS 374 with C or better and MATH 215.
