Catalog description

Quantum theory at the advanced undergraduate level. Course topics include time-independent and time-dependent perturbation theory, addition of angular momentum, hyperfine structure of the hydrogen atom, and identical particles. Time permitting, additional topics may be covered including quantum information and computing, basic atomic theory, scattering, and periodic potentials. Three hours. Prerequisites: PHYS 474 with B- or better.
