Introduction to Concepts in Pharmacology

Catalog description

This course introduces basic pharmacology concepts that integrate anatomy and physiology while providing a framework to understand drugs and their administration. Students will become knowledgeable of general principles and concepts of pharmacology. Concepts include drug classifications, indications, uses, doses, interactions and contraindications associated with individual drugs and mechanisms of drug administration and therapeutic management of patients with specific disease processes. In addition, patient education is highlighted for each classification of drugs to bring an awareness of the importance of healthcare professionals assisting in patient teaching and answering questions about the medications they take. Clinical judgment skills will continue to be developed in the classroom setting. Lecture. Offered summer only.
