Catalog description
Archives and manuscript collections form the basis of the historical record, and this course will provide an understanding of their nature, characteristics and creation. Students will learn the history of archives as well as the role of the archivist in appraising, arranging, describing and preserving archival materials. We will cover issues such as copyright, physical preservation, disaster planning, management, reference access, and security. Recent issues and debates in the field will also be addressed. Trends in the digitization of archives and online access will be explored.
