Substance Use Disorder Certificate Program: Identification and Referral

The Substance Use Disorder Certificate Program is an innovative program designed to assist pharmacists and student pharmacists in gaining an appreciation of the disease model of substance use disorders and its associated stigma, identifying substance use risk factors, conducting assessments through validated screening mechanisms, engaging in motivational interviewing, and making referrals when so indicated. The program is based on the SBIRT model (screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment) that is endorsed by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA). The program is comprised of online home study modules and in-person live components. Participants will receive a Certificate of Achievement upon successful completion of the program. Completion includes online self-study, online post-test, live module exercises, and the live seminar post-test. Successful completion is defined as a score of 70 percent or greater on the post-test examinations for both the online and live programming components as well as completion of live seminar module exercises.
