Pharmaceutical Science and Practice of Immunization
Duquesne University · UGRD · Fall 2026
Catalog description
This is an integrated course designed to develop competency in immunization theory, application, and technique. Concepts in infectious disease transmission dynamics, herd immunity, maternal immunity, and waning/boosting of immune responses, and emerging technologies will be discussed. Each learning outcome will be assessed using an assessment strategy appropriate to the level of learning. Teaching and learning methods will involve self-assessment of knowledge, active-learning, case studies, and simulations to foster active, life-long learning. An important goal is to empower the student with the tools necessary to implement a pharmacy based immunization practice. The student will meet the requirements to qualify for immunization certification granted by the American Pharmacists Association. The certificate training meets the Pennsylvania State Board requirements for a pharmacist to apply for the ?authority to immunize.?
