This seminar will explore the work of the German philosopher J. G. Fichte, a key figure in the tradition of German Idealism. Topics to be discussed may include Fichte?s radicalization of the notion of subjectivity, his account of the compatibility of freedom and necessity, the idea of a science of knowledge, the foundations of natural right, his system of ethics, or other philosophical issues. Seminar. Offered irregularly.
