Buddhist Phenomenology

This seminar will begin with a look at why the phenomenology of the early Yogacara Buddhist tradition was attractive to Chinese philosophers confronting the challenge of scientific modernity. We will then study the ways is conceptually linked to Confucianism and Daoism, resulting in a remarkable and perhaps unparalleled synthesis of Chinese thought. It is strongly recommended that any students enrolling in this class have completed at least two Philosophy courses before it begins. Seminar. Offered irregularly.
