This seminar explores the philosophy of G.F.W. Hegel, the nineteenth-century German philosopher whose ideas largely defined the trajectory of post-Kantian Idealism and played an important role defining the major problems for twentieth-century continental philosophy. Hegelian philosophy treats metaphysics, epistemology, politics, philosophy of language, aesthetics, and more. This course will concentrate on one of his major texts or treat excerpts from several. It is strongly recommended that any students enrolling in this class have completed at least two Philosophy courses before it begins.
