Plato's Middle Dialogues

Though the periodization is still debated, Plato?s middle period dialogues include Cratylus, Euthydemus, Meno, Parmenides, Phaedo, Phaedrus, Republic, Symposium, Theatetus, a list that includes many of Plato?s most intriguing works, whether appraised from a philosophical or literary perspective. This seminar will explore a section of these dialogues, treating issues such as love and desire, the powers and limits of human knowledge, the nature and structure of the self, the theory of forms, etc. It is strongly recommended that any students enrolling in this class have completed at least two Philosophy courses before it begins.
