History and Philosophy of Science

Catalog description

This writing-intensive course examines conceptual models for contemporary and historical approaches to the production of scientific knowledge and experimental engagement with the natural world. In many sections, its emphasis will be on the considering the development of models for thinking about human body, examining some historical roots of fundamental concepts in the medical tradition, and interpreting significant shifts in approaches the concept of health. Some sections will focus on other themes in the history of science. Its goal is to provide a space for students and practitioners of the sciences to reflect historically and philosophically on their own disciplines as well as one in which students in other fields can consider the history of scientitifc knowledge and practice.
