This course explores existential concerns touching on the nature of care, community, and aesthetics through an engagement with a set of thinkers and texts rooted in the Catholic philosophical tradition: Augustine?s Confessions, Simone Weil?s The Need for Roots, and Edith Stein?s On the Problem of Empathy. The course also explores these issues through the philosophy of Martin Heidegger and a rotating set of contemporary thinkers.
