Introduction to Phenomenology

The phenomenological method was developed by Husserl in 1900 as a way of describing human experience, and since then it has become central to philosophy and the social sciences. Topics in this course include consciousness, intentionality, and meaning. Aspects of consciousness include time and space, perspective and bodily experience, subjectivity and objectivity, and inter-subjectivity. We apply phenomenology to everyday experience, and also to experiences such as music, religion, culture, sports, race, and gender.
