PHBM 437 ? Biomedical Sciences and Therapeutics: Endocrine and Nutrition (BMST: Endocrine and Nutrition) This is an integrated course designed to enable students to understand the pathophysiology of nutritional (Kwashiorkor, Marasmus, obesity) and endocrine (DM1, DM2, adrenal, thyroid) disorders. At the completion of this course, the student should be proficient in the application of pharmacotherapy to the disease states reviewed. Furthermore, students should be able to utilize knowledge of pharmacology, medicinal chemistry, and pharmaceutics principles to improve patient outcomes for these disease states. Each learning outcome will be assessed using an assessment strategy appropriate to the level of learning. Teaching and learning methods will involve self-assessment of knowledge, active learning, case studies, and simulations to foster active, life-long learning. PHBM 437 is a prerequisite for PHPR 443, PHBM 443, and PHBM 444.
